Merizalde is making his second Championship start. In 2024, he won two World Amateur Golf Ranking events. In 2023, he represented Colombia in the Eisenhower Trophy in Abu Dhabi and competed in the U.S. Mid-Amateur at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in New York. He reached the semifinals of the 2001 U.S. Amateur at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta and, while competing as a professional, he won the 2006 Colombian Open.
